You do not need to become any better than you are now to be fogiven by God. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” So what do you need to do to be saved? You need to pray. Below are some ideas of what should be in your prayer.
1) Admit that you are a sinner, and are not worthy of Heaven or forgiveness.
2) Recognize that Jesus is God, and that you need his forgiveness.
3) Thank Jesus for coming to Earth to die as a sacrifice for your sins, and for defeating death by rising from the dead.
4) Ask Him to forgive you of your sins, and come into your life as Lord and Savior.
That’s it. That is all that you need to do. I have put a few of my personal observations below, but agreeing with them has nothing to do with being saved, so ignore them if you want to.
Now remember, once you accept Jesus, you do not instantly become a perfect person. You are saved, and will go to heaven, but it is hard to stop doing things that you are not supposed to do. Once I did my research, I found the idea of accepting Jesus as my savior to be fairly easy. Accepting him as Lord… well that is more difficult.
I like to be in control, and I still find myself trying to do things my way, even when I know that I am doing something that Jesus would disapprove of. I have found that even Christians who have been followers of Christ for many years still backtrack and find themselves sinning, and trying to do things their own way. Jesus understands this. He knows that we will all stumble and fall away from doing what he wants us to do. My suggestion is that you pray for God’s help and thank him for his forgiveness every day. According to his own words, God will give us both of these things.
